The Alajuela 38 comes from an era when serious offshore cruising boats were built with a very different philosophy than most production sailboats today: substantial construction, conservative engineering, proven hull forms, and an expectation that the vessel might someday find herself a very long way from home.
This 1977 Alajuela 38 is particularly appealing because she is a factory-finished example that has remained remarkably close to her original configuration. She has not suffered from decades of questionable owner modifications or attempts to turn her into something she was never intended to be. At heart, she remains what Alajuela built her to be—a powerful, beautifully proportioned, traditional bluewater cruising yacht.

The standing rigging was replaced in 2019, an important consideration for anyone evaluating an offshore cruising yacht.
Also included is a new Schaefer 2100 roller-furling system that has never been installed. This gives the next owner the opportunity to complete the installation as part of recommissioning rather than inheriting another aging furling system.
