The Southern Wind 100 has become the benchmark 30-metre sailing yacht, an icon of performance cruiser that perfectly balances speed, comfort, and elegance. Initially offered in a deck saloon configuration and later refined with a sleeker raised saloon version, the series set a new standard in semi-custom yacht design.

Freebirdis the final yacht of the SW100 series, benefitting from the full heritage and technical experience gained from her twelve sisterships. Originally launched in 2011 as Mrs. Marietta Cube the third Southern Wind yacht for her original owners, she cruised the Mediterranean for family enjoyment and the occasional charter before being acquired by her current owner in 2019. She was comprehensively refitted and rechristened Freebird the same year.

Cruising History and Upgrades

Following her first transatlantic crossing to the Caribbean in late 2019, Freebird has maintained a consistent program of active cruising and continuous technical enhancement.

2020–2021 Refit (Port Adriano, Mallorca)

  • Full hull strip and refairing with Gel shield, primer, and antifouling
  • Repainted in Dupont Metallic Ontario Blue with silver cove and boot stripes
  • Mast unstepped, fully serviced, and repainted
  • Bow and pulpit modified for improved Code Zero handling

2024–2025 Refit (Vilanova, Spain)

  • Two new Onan 19 kVA generators with PTO
  • Full NDT inspection and service of mast, rigging, and hydraulics
  • Mast, boom, and spreaders polished
  • Jib and staysail furlers serviced
  • Rod rigging serviced at BSI, Denmark
  • Starlink Marine satellite system installed

Between these refits, Freebird has completed multiple Mediterranean and Caribbean seasons, participated in the Southern Wind Rendezvous in Porto Cervo, and continued her disciplined maintenance program.

Design and Layout

A collaboration between Farr Yacht Design (naval architecture) and Nauta Design (exterior styling and interiors), Freebird is conceived as a true performance cruiser. Her low-profile coachroof accentuates her sleek lines, while her central guest cockpit and dedicated aft sailing cockpit provide seamless separation between relaxation and action.

Down below, Freebird features a full-beam main saloon that forms the heart of her interior. Accommodation is for nine guests in four cabins: a forward owner’s suite, VIP cabin, studio lounge, and two aft guest cabins, all with en-suite bathrooms. The design exudes understated sophistication with natural light, refined joinery, and elegant detailing throughout.

Status

Freebird is now offered for sale and available for private viewing by appointment. Combining pedigree design, meticulous maintenance, and proven ocean-going capability, she represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most refined examples of the iconic Southern Wind 100 series.
