About this yacht

ANGUS is a rare 1939 50’ steel Burger motor yacht representing one of the finest surviving examples of early American yacht building. Originally built as a private yacht by Burger Boat Company, she later served in a research role at Grand Valley State University, operating exclusively on the freshwater of Lake Michigan.

She retains her original Kahlenberg 4-cylinder diesel engine, fully operational, and has benefited from a Burger-led restoration/preservation program (2011–2012) followed by meticulous mechanical recommissioning by her current owner.

Cruising comfortably at 9–10 knots, ANGUS is presented in highly original, mechanically authentic condition, offering a unique opportunity to acquire a historically significant, operational classic.

ANGUS is a rare 1939 50’ steel Burger motor yacht, originally built as a private yacht in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She later served in a research capacity and became associated with Grand Valley State University's Robert B. Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI), while remaining exclusively in freshwater service on Lake Michigan.

She retains her original Kahlenberg 4-cylinder diesel engine and was the subject of a comprehensive restoration/preservation program completed by Burger Boat Company in 2011–2012. The current owner has since recommissioned the vessel’s mechanical systems to operate as originally designed.

ANGUS cruises comfortably at 9–10 knots and is presented in highly original, mechanically authentic condition.
